Today, just a few miles from my home, a 16 year old shot one of his classmates.
Of course the pro-gun types were "blame the shooter not the gun". No one is blaming the gun, they blame the shooter and the people who let the shooter get the gun. Initial reports are the shooter used a gun owned by his parents.
Like most "responsible" gun owners they likely did not lock up the gun when they were not carrying it. Giving the kid easy access to it and the ammo. In simple words, they provided the gun to the shooter.
I for one will stop using the term "Gun Control" and instead use the term "Gun Owner Responsibility" when talking about ways to lower gun violence.
The gun owner has a responsibility to make sure the person they are transferring the gun to is legal to own it (100% back ground checks). The gun owner has a responsibility to make sure the gun does not get in the hands of those who should not have it (mandatory secure storage laws). The gun owner has a responsibility to know how to safely use the gun (mandatory training). The gun owner has responsibility to have the means to pay for an actions their gun causes (owner insurance). The gun owner has a responsibility to be able to track where their gun is or has gone (mandatory theft reporting).
It is not gun control. it is Gun Owner Responsibility laws.
