Received this e-mail today from State Senator Vincent Sheheen's (D. SC) gubernatorial campaign:
Moments ago, I stood on the front lawn of our Statehouse and delivered a simple message: it's time to lower the Confederate flag and raise the American flag.
Real leaders lead. And so today, I am charting a new path for South Carolina, focused on the future not the past. A path of unity instead of division.
Today, a group of mayors from across the state wrote me a letter to join in my effort, "We write today to join you in your effort to raise a flag that represents us all." If you agree with the mayors, including Joe Riley of Charleston and Steve Benjamin of Columbia, join them and add your name to the letter.

To compete in the global economy, we must welcome and keep the best and the brightest, so we must fly a flag that brings us all together. To be a state that looks forward, towards a future of possibilities, we must fly a flag of unity. To honor our forebears and to seek unison instead of division, we must move the Confederate flag from the front lawn of our Statehouse.
As we reached a major fundraising deadline last night, thousands of you stepped up and sent a clear message: it's time for honest leadership in South Carolina. Thanks to all of you who chipped in. There comes a time when leaders lead, as governor I'll wake up every day and do just that.
Leadership matters. Our communities matter. Our heritage and our future matter. If you agree add your name today.
