Jordan Davis was the unarmed young black man murdered by Michael Dunn. It is now both legally and morally correct to say murdered since the jury just convicted his ass.
An earlier trial resulted in a mistrial
Dunn faces life in prison without parole.
The jury that heard Dunn's first trial in February found him guilty of three counts of attempted murder and firing into an occupied vehicle, but a mistrial was declared on the first-degree murder charge when the jury remained deadlocked after 30 hours of deliberations.
From the prosecutor's closing statement:
"Let me be very clear: There was no shotgun in that red Durango that night," Wolfson said. "There was no stick, there was no branch, there was no hollow pipe. There was no weapon. Inside that Dodge Durango were four teenagers ... four kids who had just left their moms, four kids who were spending their Black Friday doing what lots of people do -- out at the mall, they were just hanging out, being kids, listening to music that they liked."
Nothing can bring Jordan back to his family. But some justice has been done.
A little more from another story:
Dunn’s parents were in the courtroom for the verdict. Davis’ parents, Ron Davis and Lucia MacBath, both let out a quiet gasp upon hearing the jury forewoman’s words and then hung their heads and cried. Dunn did not appear to have a reaction.
Duval County Judge Russell Healey set a tentative sentencing hearing for October 17 but said he would wait until Tuesday to ensure the date worked for Dunn’s defense attorneys.
