This is one of the dumbest excuses I've ever heard:
http://politics.blog.ajc.com/...
On WGAU (1360 AM) this morning, Tim Bryant and Republican U.S. Senate hopeful David Perdue had a discussion about his controversial ad linking Democrat Michelle Nunn and Points of Light to terrorist groups — and Nunn’s response.
Bryant brought up the criticism from Neil Bush, among others, and Perdue replied that he had been endorsed by Points of Light founder, President George H.W. Bush. He went on:
Perdue: “This ad from my Democratic opponent is exactly out of their playbook. It is a distraction from the real issues. I mean this ad that we had is straight out of Michelle Nunn’s own campaign plan. They raised it in their plan as a serious concern and a vulnerability. This ad really contrasts where the two candidates stand on the issues. I’ve been extremely clear for the past year and a half about where I stand on national security and the need to secure our border. …
Bryant: “Let me ask the question directly then: Do you believe Michelle Nunn is in any way associated with terrorist organizations?”
Perdue: “Well, that’s what it says in their plan, Tim.” - Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 10/3/14
Ok, so not only can Perdue not even admit that his claim is full of shit, he's also admitting that he was going to use this line of attack. First off, here's what the leaked memo said:
http://politics.blog.ajc.com/...
The National Review got hold of a 144-page internal document drafted for the Michelle Nunn campaign in December. It includes plenty of juicy revelations on campaign strategy, including a potentially serious issue with a Points of Light connection to a charity that has ties to Hamas, which is now at war with Israel.
The revelation came from an internal examination of the nascent campaign’s potential weaknesses and how Republicans could attack them.
Points of Light, through a service called MissionFish, helped validate thousands of charities for EBay users who wanted to auction items and donate the proceeds to a specific charity. One of those groups was Islamic Relief USA, which got $33,000 from individual donors through the Points of Light-validated system. Islamic Relief USA provides funds for emergency relief and other programs overseas. It has worked with the American Red Cross.
Islamic Relief USA states on its website that it “is an independent affiliate of Islamic Relief Worldwide and the Islamic Relief family of charities. We are completely separate legal entities that work together under the Islamic Relief Worldwide umbrella to provide aid.” It also says it shares a “common mission, vision and family identity” with the other “Islamic Relief” groups. - Atlanta Journal-Constitution, 7/28/14
Also, it sounds like Perdue is admitting to stooping that low to attack Nunn. If he had any principals, he wouldn't be using this line of attack. I've actually been thinking a lot about the leaked memo lately. I'm no conspiracy theorist but I'm starting to think that maybe Nunn's campaign intentionally leaked the memo to serve as bait to get Perdue to attack Nunn on this. It makes him look desperate and dishonest and maybe Saxby Chambliss' (R. GA) style of attacks have finally soured on Georgia voters. No one from Nunn's campaign has been fired over this and being that they are running a tight campaign, it's highly unlikely that someone from her staff would be that incompetent. I don't know for sure but Perdue continues to get scolded over this:
http://politics.blog.ajc.com/...
Sam Nunn on Thursday condemned as “shameful” that TV spot from Republican U.S. Senate candidate David Perdue that accuses Michelle Nunn and the foundation for which she worked of giving money to terrorist-linked organizations.
“It’s shameful. Particularly when you know that everybody in the opposition campaign knows that that’s not true,” her father, the longtime former U.S senator, said in an hour-long interview. “It’s not like they believe it. There’s too much these days of anything that works, regardless of what lines it crosses.”
Michelle Nunn’s father also said his daughter, the Democratic nominee for Senate, has little obligation to support Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., should Democrats maintain the chamber in November – given that Reid, in the spring of 2013, asked her not to run for Sam Nunn’s old seat.
“They said they had their eye on another candidate,” Sam Nunn said. Presumably, that other candidate would have been U.S. Rep. John Barrow, D-Augusta, whom many Democrats were attempting to lure into the contest at the time.
Michelle Nunn, her father said, rejected the advice to withdraw. Barrow declined to enter the race. - Atlanta Journal Constitution, 10/2/14
Nunn right now is working to make sure reaches the 50% mark and she's doing that by reaching out to youth voters:

U.S. Senate candidate Michelle Nunn stopped by Columbus State University on Thursday, Oct. 2.
Nunn toured the campus this morning and met with students in leadership roles. She also spoke with faculty and staff about the importance of a strong supportive education system.
"We want to make sure that everybody knows that there is a big contrast in this election," Nunn said. "There's a real opportunity for folks to make a difference on issues that they care about whether that's jobs and opportunity and education or fiscal stewardship." - WTVM 9, 10/2/14
She's also going after Perdue on education:
http://politics.blog.ajc.com/...
Democrat Michelle Nunn opened a new line of attack in her Senate bid, saying her Republican rival’s support for dismantling the Department of Education could threaten middle-class families.
The nonprofit executive used a tour of a YMCA preschool center on the outskirts of downtown Atlanta yesterday to attack David Perdue’s platform, which she said would “eradicate” $1.1 bill in Pell Grants for Georgia students as well as millions in other programs.
“There’s a big contrast in this race for those who care and are invested,” she said.
Perdue has said the federal Department of Education should be abolished because it has failed to keep American students competitive. His spokeswoman Megan Whittemore said his plan involves “moving more money out of Washington and into our classrooms” and empowering parents and local school boards to make more decisions. - Atlanta Journal Constitution, 10/2/14
Nunn has been endorsed by the Georgia Association of Educators. We can beat Perdue, we just have to get our base out to the polls. Click here to donate and get involved with Nunn's campaign:
