Kate Marshall
Nevada's Republican candidate for secretary of state wants it to be the next state to impose a voter ID law. Standing in her way is Democrat Kate Marshall, and the two are locked in a statistical tie, according to the latest polling reported by Jon Ralston.
Treasurer Kate Marshall has a 2 percentage point lead, well within the margin of error, over state Sen. Barbara Cegasvke in the contest for secretary of state.
Those are the findings of a poll taken last month […] by Greenberg Quinlan Rosner, a well-known Democratic polling firm. The survey was conducted for iVote, which is the Democratic Party-aligned outfit trying to protect voting rights across the country. It was a statewide, live-caller poll of 600 likely voters (4 percent margin of error).
Those numbers comport with private polling I have been told about.
The
polling memo [pdf] points out that Marshall has higher name ID (34 to 22 percent for Republican Cegavske), has higher favorables among those familiar with her vs. Cegavske (16-to-7 positive to negative vs. Cegavske’s 8-to-6 percent) and has an 8-point advantage, 25-17, among voters who strongly support her. The memo adds that after voters "hear positive profiles on both candidates, Marshall moves to a 52 to 43 percent lead."
A second poll shows exactly the same tight race. SurveyUSA reports "43% for Cegavske, 42% for Marshall. Cegavske's nominal 1-point advantage may or may not be statistically significant; the contest should be reported as a tie. The candidates truly are battling for each last vote: neither candidate reaches 50% among males, females, the young, the old, whites, blacks, Hispanics, independents or moderates."

Clearly, Marshall needs to get her positive message out to as many Nevadans as possible, to nail this one. And it would sure help if the young, the old, blacks, and Hispanics heard more about Cegavske's plans to make it much harder for them to vote.
Help her get there. Please contribute to help keep Nevada a safe place to vote. Give $3 to Kate Marshall.
