M.O.K. - This is what I was thinking when I started this group. This is for Progressive Mormons, the few, the proud. Don't care if you go to church or not, if you are, were, or will, might be a member of the LDS church. Are you sympathetic to these issues, but not a member? Come unto this group. If you want to work toward progressive goals, if you are a Liberal Mormon, if you want to show the world that the Church is not politically monolithic, come here. If you think liberal values are reflective of what the church or its theology, or its behavior or the behavior and actions and beliefs were, are, or should be, come here. If you want to be a counterbalance to the Glen Becks and Mittsters of the world come here. If you want to share your personal confluence of religious experience and the KOS experience, of progressive theological, spiritual, and positive action - activism from a Mormon viewpoint, background or spiritual or world view, come here.
This is not intended to, nor will things herein be allowed to, proselytize to Kossacks. This is not a missionary auxiliary group. If you want that, go to:
Chat with Mormons
or
Talk to LDS Missionaries
If you want to talk about the downsides of the LDS Church is, we are open to that.
If you want to talk about how horrible, terrible and evil the church is and we are all pawns in Satan's game, go to:
Should I hate Mormons or not?
or
Jesus says I should!
.
Go below the Orange Font to baptize yourself in more M.O.K.
If you are sick and tired of the errant, strident conservatism of some Church members and the resultant public perception or what Mormons are and what it means to be a Mormon, speak up. If you think the 11th and 12th Articles of Faith speak to equal protection and freedom from having others decide what one should do, even if one doesn't belong to the Church, speak up. If you are struggling to reconcile your political, activist world with your spiritual, theological, familial and cultural space, speak, listen and commiserate here. If you think the LDS policy on abortion demands safe and legal abortions for those cases where circumstances would permit a termination, state it here. If you think the church should not take action that would interfere with a non-member participating in, or getting an abortion, simply because they are not members and shouldn't be subjected involuntarily to church standards, here you are. Does the 11th Article of Faith tell us not to take action to attempt to regulate how others practice faith or non-faith and impose our will on the legal structure that regulates other's behavior? Does the 12th article tell us that we should respect government policies that we disagree with and If you think If you think Glen and Mitt are only lying when their mouths are open, but then again maybe a little when they are shut too, and it reflects poorly on your world, grouse here. If you are saddened by the pain, sorrow, and distrust you or some of your friends and loved ones have carried by their interaction with the church, talk and heal here. If you or your friend has distanced themselves from the church because you or they don't feel welcome due to politics, sexual orientation, family status, etc., tell us about it. Do you regularly wear purple to church and hope someone else recognizes this and join with you in supporting women and Ordain Women, hook up here. Gripe, enjoy, scream, hug if you are a Mormon, but happy that the Supreme Court for once said we don't want none o' dat some are more equal than others stuff and told haters to hate elsewhere, come here.
If, in spite of all this, you love the gospel because of what it offers and feel that the LDS church is your conduit to your spiritual and cultural life, if you are happy as a church person and want to share and let others know that the church is good and others can benefit from it, that you feel at home in church and that the gospel shouldn't be hammered politically into something it's not, rather it can be the ethical structure for your take on Progressive values, talk to us.
So, after this 'splination of what I would like this group to be, and of course, the collective participants here will make it what they want it to become, if you still are a hoping that we need to repent of being Mormons so we will get all saved up in the Rapture, or that we should be scraped off of the the bottom of Kosworld and flicked out the window, go here:
This is the Place
P.S. I in no way intend to criticize Church theology or individual Church leaders, or cast a negative public view of the Church, rather, I hope to counter negative imagery and attitudes of the Church. I will state my opinion of ways the Church can improve public relations.
Oh yes, and many thanks to Kos himself for allowing us to be us on this wonderful site.
