A Republican operative connects Fred Duval to Saddam Hussein and the beheading video I didn't write about yesterday...all this after the proverbial jump...
Yep, they went there: One of the silliest things in the Arizona campaigns this year has been the attempt to paint some Democrats as "lobbyists." Last week, Secretary of State candidate Michelle Reagan made a clumsy attempt to accuse Terry Goddard's campaign of being run by a lobbyist. Funny, not only because it was easily refutable, but because Reagan didn't seem to mind hanging out with lobbyists during her time in the legislature.
The inartful execution of Reagan's attack has not stopped other Republicans from doing the same. Ladies and gentleman, Sean Noble:
Wow, look at this post I found on a mysterious quickly put up website that I probably have nothing to do with!
It's quite a stretch to say that Duval supports Saddam Hussein, given that both Hussein and this guy they are trying to connect him to are both dead. If Noble is now against people who lobby for oppressive regimes, he may want to have a conversation with a certain senator he is friendly with.
This is part of an ongoing attack on Duval for being a lobbyist. Hey, it's fun to trash lobbyists. What Noble leaves out is that Duval was doing his lobbying work for T. Boone Pickens. Yep, arch-Republican T. Boone Pickens.
It was being done on behalf of wind power, so don't get too mad at Fred.
Hey, maybe Noble hates lobbyists. Those guys are bottom feeders. Noble, by the way, makes his career as a bag man for the Koch brothers. That makes him better, I guess.
Sinema Beheaded a Guy: Over in the ninth district, Wendy Rogers did the classy thing and ran an add featuring a part of the video of James Foley's execution because, apparently, Kyrsten Sinema has a whole ISIS crew sitting on the Mexican border waiting to invade Tempe or something.
Rogers was roundly condemned for the ad, not least of which, as pointed out by Ruben Gallego on All In, Foley actually has ties to the district. He taught there for a while early in his career. I have a feeling Rogers had no idea this happened. I'm just guessing given how little actual knowledge has gone into most of her campaign.
Rogers did the classy thing by pulling the ad from You Tube but continuing to run it on TV. By "classy" I really don't mean classy at all.
By the way, neither Rogers nor her primary opponent could manage an endorsement from the Arizona Republic. Yes, even the Republic couldn't stomach them. Larry Sabato predicted an 8 point victory for Sinema a couple of weeks ago. Piss poor opponents and a comfortable lead. It makes me wonder why she keeps making feints to the right.
