A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

What's rude? Can dolmas be rude?
Rude: not having or showing concern or respect for the rights and feelings of other people : not polite
80 Dolmas....
I'm no
Miss Manners, but maybe I've got a handle on what being rude is....
After months of talking about and promising to make me her own special dolmas, a friend finally showed up at my house the other day to do it. Anytime my friends or I cook her food she always swears up and down she'll repay the favor by treating us to her special dolmas.
I've eaten plenty before, even sold them, but never made them. Here's a list of common ingredients in case you're even less informed than I. Having arrived home too late to see them assembled in the process, I yet got to see the ingredients scattered all around afterwards.
•1 16-ounce jar grape leaves
•2 T. olive oil, plus more for drizzling
•1 medium-sized yellow onion, finely diced
•4 cloves garlic, finely minced
•1 T. dried parsley
•1 T. dried basil
•1 1/2 cups uncooked long-grain white rice, such as basmati
•1/2 cup raw pine nuts (optional)
•8 cups vegetable broth, divided
•2/3 cups fresh lemon juice, divided, plus more for drizzling
•Water, as needed
She comes over and used my kitchen to make dolmas. Spent hours making them. As I wasn't home yet, she enlisted the aid of both my housemate and of my neighbor in the rolling process. Both are also her friends, so that should've been okay. Yet she ended up alienating both of them. Too bossy and too much of a know-it-all. No one knows anything about making dolmas except her. That's nothing though.
Dishes piled up in the sink. Dirty pots on the stove. Raw ingredients left laying around. Grape leaves galore all over the place. Trampled rice and grape leaves scattered on the floor.
Said she was going to take some of them home with her. Ended up with about 80 finished dolmas. Just when we thought she was going to dish them out, she announced she was leaving. Didn't even say thank you for the help or the space. We were too surprised to say anything. Out of 80, she took 74 home. She left only 6 behind on the bottom of the pan for the 3 of us. I got to eat only 2 of the precious dolmas, and that only because I grabbed them myself. I did though get to clean up a huge mess in the kitchen...and commisserate with my friends about the dolma doldrums.
Yeah, I call that rude.
Does being stingy with dolmas count as rudeness? How do you define rudeness?

by tmservo433 ♥ for Kansas & Missouri Kossacks
tmservo433 organized a registering-to-vote event for Ford County, Kansas in Dodge City to reach out to Latino voters there. He partnered with League of United Latin American Citizens (LULAC) and the Ford County Democratic Party. 150 people attended to listen to John Thomas (KS House District 119 Candidate), Jean Schodorf (Secretary of State Candidate), Jim Sherow (US House, KS District 1 Candidate), Mark Low (Kansas House Candidate, District 115).
"LULAC volunteers sat at their table and handled registration after registration as people came to the event to listen to how they could change their state. We knew that not only were we helping to register new and first time voters, we were helping to bring a message into a community that has been ignored - and to help them take that message back to their friends and families."
This is a great example of reaching out to disenfranchised communities and helping them vote. Because If Democratic base voters turn out, we win. Can't be said enough. More regions need to do this.
Please visit tmservo433's diary for many MORE photos! Enjoy! You can still REC it. You can join Kansas & Missouri Kossacks by sending a Kosmail to tmservo433.
