The symbol for our Justice System is Lady Justice, a Greek Goddess, who symbolize fairness, justice, equity, the power to reason and vengeance. Lady Justice at a glance, is a symbol of blind justice, but by no means ignorant justice. She hold her scales, scales that symbolize the ability to rightly evaluate a case; her Scales, are symbolic of power, reason, fairness, and the ability to dispense justice and that without partiality. Her Sword pointed down, for vengeance is truly a downward path for those who fall on her sword.
Personally, I don’t believe in Greek Mythology, neither do I believe in our Justice system. I will say at face value, lady justice is a fine piece of art work. Standing regal, she looks magnificent, beautiful, and believable, that is, at first glance. But in actuality, she is still a stone figure that was meant to exemplify something about our judicial system that we have yet to achieve.
Unfortunately, we have failed to live up to the standard she represent.
As I look at her, and all that we could be, I recognize that we are not living up to the standard that she embodies. Our justice system is a farce for the masses, a system that gives the impression of justice. A Justice System that works for some and against others. The balance of lady justice, has tilted in favor of the rich, the famous, the powerful, and corporations to name a few. I have seen lady justice bow her knee to some, while seemingly placing stones in her scale against others. She, lady justice has a tendency to mete out vengeance not only more rapidly for some, but harsher vengeance as well. And because of what she stands for, and what we stand for, it may be time to revisit the drawing board, to see if we can come up with a better representation, of our justice system.
Remove Lady Justice
Maybe it’s time to take a long hard look at the facts of our justice system, like we’ve done the Ten Commandments. At least we were honest in saying “American is not a Christian nation’. President Obama said it best, “America is a Secular nation” Many were angered by this bold announcement but we can’t deny the facts. Americans are working overtime to remove all symbolism of God from our beloved nation. As one scripture says,” they have traded living water (God) for broken cisterns (pots) that can hold no water.” Yet as we removed symbolisms that stated “we are a Christian nation’, we should also have the courage to remove the Greek God that also represents a just criminal system. For just we are not. . Let’s replace lady justice with at least, and honest factual representation, or remove her completely as we did the Ten Commandments, to our shame.
