Our fellow Kossacks who offer things for sale through the Kos Katalogue have asked me to put in a word for them this week. It seems early to be thinking of holiday shopping, but for artisans who make things by hand, and especially those who accept custom orders, they will have a whole lot easier time providing what you want for a December holiday if they find out about it soon! And shopping in the Kos Katalogue is fun and rather addictive, I can assure you, so I am very happy to endorse it!
Do you know that there are 233 listings at present in the current Kos Katalogue mothership diary? That's right -- all those progressives are operating small businesses, mostly online but some in their local area, and they stand ready to help you purchase interesting and unusual merchandise, the kind that big-box stores don't have and never will, or intelligent and thoughtfully-provided services.
Instead of feeling bad for patronizing big corporations that are NOT people, you can shop with actual people who share your values, and give their businesses a hand. Just look at all the Kategories found in the Katalogue as I write:
- Antiques, Collectibles & Unique Items
- Arts and Crafts
- Books, Cookbooks, Magazines, Newsletters and Bookshops
- Children’s Department
- Clothing
- Craft Supplies
- Electronics
- Fine Art (Painting, Drawing, Photography, Sculpture)
- Food and Drink
- Gardening and Supplies
- Household Sundries
- Jewelry
- Miscellaneous
- Music, CDs, DVDs
- Pet Department
- Services
- Software and Webdesign
- Sporting Goods
- Stationery (Notecards, Etc.)
- Yarn, Knitting, Crochet and Weaving
I speak as a frequent customer of Kos Katalogue merchants. Those I have dealt with are universally skilled, helpful, and delighted to have our business. We all need to buy things sometimes, so why not check out the Kos Katalogue and see if you can give a sale to someone who shares your values?
If you are a Kossack with a small business, or with a family member or close friend with such a business, you too can be listed! Send a kosmail to the Kos Katalogue group and they will help you.
Many thanks to

Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who are caring and supportive of one another. So bring your stories, jokes, photos, funny pics, music, and interesting videos, as well as links—including quotations—to diaries, news stories, and books that you think this community would appreciate. Readers may notice that most who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but newcomers should not feel excluded. We welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.
