We have a local News Channel here in NYC called NY-1 and every night at 9:00 PM they have a program entitled "The Call" which covers a specific subject every night and listeners can call, email or twitter their opinions. Last night, of course, the subject was Dr Craig Spencer who is now being treated at Bellevue Hospital for Ebola. Well, this hystrical woman calls in states that she lives 4 blocks from Bellevue and is so fearful of her puppy getting Ebola that she's not going to take it out for 21 days to poop! I actually felt sorry for this woman, who has such a closed mind to the reality of how you can get Ebola. I do have to say that someone else made the statement that we can't believe our elected officials because they told 1st Responders that "the air at Ground Zero was okay" and now we've been finding out it wasn't (of course this came from Guiliani and then EPA head, Christie Todd-Whitman, both Republicons.
I've discovered that people don't listen and are paranoid about Ebola and how you can get it. One relative even told me that "well, you can get it just by breathing" (this was a George Will comment on FOX) and I told her to stop listening to FOX.
Ebola is scary but it is treatable, at least here in the U.S.and I certainly do hope that a cure is forthcoming but as for myself, I'm more afraid of getting mugged, hit by a car that can't stop for a red light or someone riding their bike on the sidewalk which is illegal and I have to say, ISIS.
