So there's this guy I see all the time who seems crazy to me, but I'm not sure if I'm the crazy one or if he is. I'll give you a few examples of things I've heard him say and then you be the judge.
First of all, he believes he's a prophet. Not just a visionary who predicts things rightly most of the time, but an actual prophet commissioned directly by God to relay His messages to humanity. God has told him that he'll be the savior of humanity. Everywhere he goes he begs everyone who's listening to heed his messages because if they don't, America as we know it will no longer exist. He'll oftentimes shed tears while begging everyone to listen because he, and only he, knows what's best for all of us and he just wants to save us all from certain doom.
Among his countless rants about the government, he warns that it's coming for us. The government, he says, is secretly planning to round us all up into internment camps. While they will kill a lot of us, they'll keep most of us as slaves living in tiny apartments and manufacturing goods and toiling in fields. And this will happen very, very soon, according to him. It's already started, actually. "Satan and the forces of darkness" are leading this all by possessing the minds of our elected leaders.
He often warns everyone about the little things that we average people can't see. While we see a coffee pot or a dishwasher, he sees the secret subliminal message imprinted on it by Satan. While we see Google as a search engine and tech company, he sees it for what it really is... an evil empire that is secretly building an army of robots to kill and enslave us. We see NBC, he sees the media wing of Satan's army. We see Katy Perry singing, he sees "full fledged witchcraft."
In this man's America, Christians are the most persecuted group. He warns of a coming crackdown on Christianity. Soon the government will arrest anyone who's a Christian. Bible reading will be banned. Christmas will be outlawed. Again, that's already started but we just can't see it like he can because he's God's earthy messenger and we aren't.
I could go on for hours, but I'll wrap this up quickly. Isn't it obvious that he's at least a little crazy? So why am I asking your opinion on this? Because somebody gave him his own show on the radio! And guess what? His show, The Glenn Beck Program:
-Is heard on over 400 stations in the U.S.
-It is the third highest-rated national radio talk show among adults ages 25 to 54.
-He has the number 34 spot on the Forbes’ Celebrity 100 list.
-He brings in over 100 million dollars per year.
-His website gets 25 million unique monthly visitors.
THAT'S why I'm asking. They say "50 million Elvis fans can't be wrong." Well what about 50 million Glenn Beck fans? He warns of America's upcoming doom and, actually, based on those numbers, I think he might finally be onto something.
