As part of my ongoing effort to be an active and informed citizen, I sometimes wind up keeping my friends (Kossacks, etc.) close and my enemies closer. A case in point arrived in the mail today. In the interest of free speech, I willingly sign any cause petition that comes my way. It's sort of a holdover from spending most of my life in California, a ballot initiative/petition happy state. Agree or disagree, get it on the ballot and let the people decide! Or agree or disagree, get a cause backer's petition to its intended target (even wing nuts have the right to be heard-it's the price we pay). This is how I wound up on the mailing list of those "wonderful" folks at Judicial Watch (H/T Jay Sekulow, part of the Fox cabal). Come join me after the fold/squiggle and I'll get to the point.
Today, a legal looking brownish-yellow envelope arrives marked "IMPORTANT LAW ENFORCEMENT DOCUMENT-DO NOT FORWARD". Off to the side, and sideways, are the words "NON PROFIT ORGANIZATION". Knowing something fishy when I see, I turn it over and, lo and behold, there's Judicial Watch's Scales of Justice logo.
To make it easier on my shredder, I open it up and there's a petition to the nation's governors urging them to stand firm against illegal immigration, along with a letter from no less than good ol' Sheriff Joe Arpaio (just what I always wanted , a computer copy of Sheriff Joe's autograph-Whoopee!). This is one petition I DO NOT sign and return because of another principal of mine. If something like this comes with a non-postage paid envelope, in the trash she goes! The Sierra Club may send, ironically, more paper with mailings like this but at least they PAY the postage.
I shudder to think how many dimwits out there will be scared enough to open this immediately because of the first seven words in bold above. "Whoa Martha, this here's an important piece of mail. Better look inside it now!"
As for the other three on the front, well, these are the boys who think they have the smoking gun regarding Lois Lerner & the IRS. They've got "more brass than a Chinese gong factory" as a Democratic operative once said about former Indiana Senator Vance Hartke-with Hartke in the building!
Don't fall for this stunt. Let's show them next week that we're smarter than they think we are.
