If the Republicans take a couple more Senate seats, they will install (ugh) Mitch McConnell as the Senate Majority Leader on January 4th, 2015.
If Speaker Boehner maintains his Office, what do you expect his first order of Business in the US House will be come January 4th, 2015? I know what I expect it to be: A motion to bring to the Floor of the US House a Bill of Impeachment.
The voters in this country apparently felt that it just doesn't matter if you vote or not, because no matter who wins in elections, nothing gets done.
In all of my despair, I cannot say that I blame them, because even to me it seems a lot like that, ever since the end of the Bill Clinton Administration.
More below the fleur-de-kos....
I fully expect the Media to blame a lot of the Democratic Losses on candidates who failed to campaign on Obama's successes:
Stock market went from 6K to 16K
Added 6 Million jobs
Opened access to healthcare insurance to 10 million (PPACA)
Ended Recession/Minor Depression
Kept Economy from falling into Inflation post-Recession
But why should they have? The Media never treats any of the President's successes as
successes, when they mention them at all, it's via the lens of "some people think..." and "the unpopular President".
Still, for more than 30 or 40 years now, the Republicans have done one thing and they have done it fucking great: they stick to a single damned line of talk, from Speaker to most junior US Rep to the entire Republican Senate caucus.
No matter WHAT the issue is, they get a single sound-bite and every damned one of them sticks to it, no matter what.
The Democrats? They are an erudite, educated bunch of folks - and average people get lost in the weeds listening to them try to explain complex issues.
It pains me to say this, but someone has to: our country is filled with the fucking Walking Dead, from Congress to the local bakery. Brain-dead idiots who not only can't understand complex ideas, when they hear them they run screaming into the night... until their attention is grabbed by someone repeating a short bit of something endlessly. Which apparently makes the something stick in their fucking heads.
You all know what happens next.
The GOP is going to be crowing with glee until the New Year. Then, after January 3rd and the new Congress gets seated, and the GOP Majority in both Houses is rife with the knowledge that they wield all of the power (except that of the Oval Office), the legislation they bring next year?
It's going to send this country into a god-damned spiral into hell.
They WILL repeal the PPACA - and President Obama will Veto it. They won't have the 2/3rds majority to overcome that repeal. So they'll try it again a few times.
Now, it'll be March 15th or so. The bloodsucking GOP will be on not just the Sunday shows, but everywhere, telling the American People how this Imperial President has DENIED the Will of the People (or at least their duly elected representatives in Congress) and they WILL bring a Bill of Impeachment in the US House. I don't know if they will be able to muster the 2/3rds Vote required to uphold such an Impeachment, but by March, they might have scared enough Blue Dog Democrats to achieve it.
I guess the sad, sad truth is that the average American voter has tuned out so much for so long that they simply believe that there is no difference between the Democrats and the Republicans.
But they are going to find out differently from January 2015 going forward.
I used to think that the egregious and horrific Administration of George W Bush would scar the psyche of the American Electorate for at least 20 years. That the voters would not soon forget what giving the Republicans full rein of the Power of Government would mean for average people in this nation.
I was wrong, wrong, wrong.
Brace yourselves, liberals and progressives. This ride is about to get a lot more bumpy, and it's not going to be fun for a single moment, and most of you are going to be wanting to get off at the first chance and try an different ride. But I have news for you - this is the only ride in town.
I don't know at all what we can do to change things.
Perhaps what we need is to take a new look at OUR SIDE, at the politically correct view of the Democratic Party and it's prospects for 2016. Maybe what the Democrats need is to find some candidates who appeal to average people, who are populists and who talk like populists - and not like Republican Lite candidates.
Because tonight, the Democratic Base told us all how they feel about THAT.
They just said "No".
