Mostly to get in the habit of doing these, let's go over the (not very) surprising local-ish results from yesterday's election:
House of Representatives (CA-23): Kevin McCarthy, as far as I know, didn't bother campaigning here. With 75.3% of the vote, looks like he didn't need to. Looks like immigration gets ignored for two more years.
State Assembly (CA-36): The incumbent, Steve Fox (D-Palmdale) was defeated 38.5% to 61.5% by Palmdale City Councilman Tom Lackey. Guess I can take the sign down. So long, Democratic supermajority in Sacramento. Guess we're going back to being ungovernable.
State Assembly (CA-34): Republican Shannon Grove defended her seat handily 74.6% to 25.4% against Virginia "Mari" Goodman. At least she didn't run unopposed.
L.A County Sheriff: Long Beach Police Chief Jim McDonnell won the seat with 74.6% of the vote. I have absolutely no idea what the scandal that caused the opening was about, but in the Antelope Valley at least the L.a> County Sheriff's Department provides law enforcement.
Any other localish races or districts fall under the "Mojave Kossacks" purview? Let me know in the comments.
