I emailed someone about this but never posted about it. The Voting Rights Act (VRA) was overturned on 2013. The NY Times, to their credit and integrity, ran a Front Page article about the decision. Few others discussed it. That decision opened the door for voter discrimination against Blacks and Latinos and guess what just happened... the Senate just took control of the house. There are Republican voters amongst the Black and Latino communities but predominantly, that constituency will vote Democratic.
Why did no one discuss this decision in the aftermath of the election, or even before and during it? All we ever heard were cases of general voter fraud, and election mishaps. Where was the specific discussion surrounding the overturn of this MAJOR CIVIL RIGHTS ERA piece of legislation?
I wonder if the Democratic base realizes that their issues are in the same category as Black and Latino people's issues?
The country has a history of racism and yeah, I know, we don't want the illegal immigrants ;) but still we gotta welcome everyone who is here. It's just the tactically smart decision.
Oh yeah, maybe if the Democratic base had stood up for more of the families of illegal immigrants (instead of going along with Obama's deportation policies, or lack of action to prevent them; or allowing those girls from Honduras entry)... maybe the majority would have been kept.
Cheers and have a nice next 2 years they gonna be fuuuuuuuuuuuuunnnnnnn ;)
