There has been some back and forth in the last day or so concerning the permissibility of promoting the impeachment of Barack Obama within this community.
There used to be a time, not long ago, when the talk of impeaching a Democratic president within our midst would be summarily rejected by this community, which was founded on the basis of promoting Democrats.
Does this mean that Democrats cannot be liable for impeachment? It certainly does not.
As a member of this community, I have never interpreted the rejection of the promotion of the impeachment of a Democratic president to mean that if said president by national consensus had been found to be in violation of the laws of this nation that such a sentiment would not be acceptable.
But owing to the creed of the site creator of being dedicated to the promotion of Democratic Party candidates, it has always been my take away that such a preoccupation, if not based on at least a reasonable consensus of this entire site, would be rife with disagreement and acrimony and serve to splinter and depress a thriving and important community.
As I mentioned in a post earlier this morning, this is a great political platform and one that encourages the rough and tumble give and take of passionate advocates and their opinions, I have disagreed with quite a few over the years, but ultimately have always believed that everyone has the right to state and defend their perspectives.
Has there been a national consensus that Barack Obama should be impeached? I can only refer to polls that have been prompted by the efforts of Republicans as it relates to this topic this past summer:
Based on what you have read or heard, do you believe that President Obama should be impeached and removed from office, or don't you feel that way?
Should be impeached 33%, Don’t feel that way 65%, No opinion 1%
As the liberal website Politics USA pointed out:
It is not surprising that impeachment is most popular with Republicans (57%) and conservatives (56%). Seventy-nine percent of respondents believed that impeachment should only be used for serious crimes, but 29% of Republicans and conservatives believed that it should be used to express dissatisfaction.
But as it relates to Democrats, it was glaring to find individuals within this community
promoting the impeachment of Barack Obama, and based upon charges such as the President’s not pursuing prosecution of George W. Bush. Granted, this nation had the ability to weigh in on this issue in 2012 when the President engaged it in his second run for the presidency and he was elected by 51 percent of the electorate.
Their other reasons for promoting the impeachment of the President also included his strategy of using drones in this nation’s war against Al-Qaeda. As it was stated:
his drone strike killings of hundreds of civilians
These are unfortunate deaths to be sure, as the death of one individual is horrible and unfortunate. But, let's be clear, these pale in comparison to the hundreds of thousands of collateral deaths under LBJ during the Vietnam War and FDR during World War II.
George W. Bush is estimated to have caused 500,000 deaths in Iraq. Has our nation responded with cries of impeachment during the tenure of any of these past presidents?
These were my responses, I am certain many will disagree with them, but the bottom line question is this, does this community sanction the promotion of the impeachment of Barack Obama?
This needs to be asked, for this is certainly not what many here signed up for.
