...People asking what issues you want them to support? If so, I submit that the only issue Dems should be fighting for, harping on, driving Repugs crazy with, is federal campaign/election reform.
Start the rant:
Until Dems get Federal campaign/election reform passed, they will be able to do nothing in "We The People's" interest.
Yeah, in the name of bi-partisan cooperation, they can capitulate to the Repugs on any number of issues:
1. KXL - Let's destroy our planet so the Koch Brothers can achieve one more giant payday before they kick off; yeah, that's the ticket.
2. Chained CPI for Social Security - sure, we need to do this to...fulfill the promise of the Ryan budget? The damned Ryan budget increases our already bloated military-industrial complex, and gives more tax cuts to corporations. If the balanced budget is so damned important, how about raising taxes and cutting the military budget to the equivalents of the Eisenhower era.
3. TPP, shipping what few good-paying jobs we have to Vietnam. (BTW, could someone explain how Obama can support bills to "in-source" manufacturing from overseas to America while at the same time trying to ram the TPP down our throats? Does he not get it, or am I missing something?).
4. Killing Food Stamps despite the fact that 20% of American children are BORN into poverty, and Repugs are making it ever more difficult to escape poverty with their cursed austerity cuts (see the end of 2), and failed economic policies (can't you see Kansas imploding before your eyes from what George H.W. Bush, a Republican no less, called voodoo economics?).
5. Make Medicare a voucher system (see 2).
6. Abolish the EPA.
7. Abolish Presidential Executive Orders.
If Dems cave on any of these things, we should throw them in prison for aiding and abetting.
But, passing anything smelling faintly progressive is laughable as long as Repugs have a strangle-hold on our electoral process through the state houses. Does anyone think Dems can regain the House by 2020 (the census year) with all of the gerrymandering? If you do, you are living in dreamland.
And, with all of the voter suppression laws Repug state houses are brazenly passing, have you noticed how difficult it is to elect Dem Senators. (BTW, how's the investigation into GA's refusal to process 40,000 voter registrations from March?!?! I've heard nothing from the bought-and-paid-for propaganda machine, er, media). Obama's not running in 2016, so we might not see an Obama coalition show up to the polls. Where's your big Democratic turnout then?
Finally, I heard that Michigan is trying to re-apportion their presidential electoral votes based on the same gerrymandering scheme which sends a preponderant majority of Repugs to the House in what was, until very recently, a dark-blue state (I can hear some Dems' thoughts: "Hmmm. I wonder how it stays so red now?" You're an idiot if you don't see the Repugs have been cheating to get it's boot on the necks of the 99%; and, they are ever so close to succeeding in their total take-over. Wake up!). If all Repug-controlled states follow Michigan, how in the Hell can HRC, much less a "socialist" like Bernie Sanders, win the Presidency in 2016?
Still, the Congress people in the Democratic Party ask us what issues we would like them to concentrate on. Please!! There is only ONE ISSUE: Federal Campaign/Election Reform. And, I don't want to hear whining from any Dem about how it has no chance in Hell of passing. To force the majority to do one blasted thing, the minority must rally the American people behind them. You are supposed to be our leaders. Are you going to watch our country fall into the abyss of climate change fatal to all life on the planet without uttering a word? And, this is because you want to appear as bipartisan? Fight! Damn you! Fight! If you do not, mark my words: we will have one-party rule for the rest of my lifetime and I am 52...or until climate change wipes out our species, whichever comes first--I'm betting on the latter.
