Orin Hatch recently had this to say:
And Hatch showed that jokes about progressives will always do well at a conservative legal confab.
"I get a big kick out of them using the word 'progressive,'" Hatch said, as quoted by HuffPost. "My gosh, they're just straight old dumb-ass liberals anyway."

Respectfully, Mr. Hatch, what would you call St. Francis of Assisi ... was he also a dumb-ass liberal pretending to be a progressive? Or was he just one of those straight-up, dumb-ass liberals?
Francis' father was Pietro di Bernardone, a prosperous silk merchant. Francis lived the high-spirited life typical of a wealthy young man, even fighting as a soldier for Assisi. While going off to war in 1204, Francis had a vision that directed him back to Assisi, where he lost his taste for his worldly life. On a pilgrimage to Rome, he joined the poor in begging at St. Peter's Basilica The experience moved him to live in poverty. Francis returned home, began preaching on the streets, and soon gathered followers. His Order was authorized by Pope Innocent III in 1210. He then founded the Order of Poor Clares, which became an enclosed religious order for women, as well as the Order of Brothers and Sisters of Penance (commonly called the Third Order).

Respectfully, Mr. Hatch, what would you call Teddy Roosevelt ... is he also a dumb-ass liberal pretending to be a progressive? Or a dumb ass progressive pretending to be a conservative:
Theodore Roosevelt, not quite 43, became the youngest President in the Nation's history. He brought new excitement and power to the Presidency, as he vigorously led Congress and the American public toward progressive reforms and a strong foreign policy.
He took the view that the President as a "steward of the people" should take whatever action necessary for the public good unless expressly forbidden by law or the Constitution." I did not usurp power," he wrote, "but I did greatly broaden the use of executive power."

Respectfully, Mr. Hatch, what would you call Franklin Roosevelt ... is he also a dumb-ass liberal pretending to be a progressive?
He was elected President in November 1932, to the first of four terms. By March there were 13,000,000 unemployed, and almost every bank was closed. In his first "hundred days," he proposed, and Congress enacted, a sweeping program to bring recovery to business and agriculture, relief to the unemployed and to those in danger of losing farms and homes, and reform, especially through the establishment of the Tennessee Valley Authority.

Respectfully, Mr. Hatch, you are in over your head:
The Progressive Era was a period of social activism and political reform in the United States that flourished from the 1890s to the 1920s. One main goal of the Progressive movement was eliminating corruption in government by exposing and undercutting political machines and their bosses and establishing further means of direct democracy. Progressives also sought regulation of monopolistic trust corporations through antitrust laws, which were seen as a means to promote fair competition for the benefit of consumers.
Something tells me, Mr. Hatch is going to learn the true meaning of what it is to be a progressive over the next decade or so.
In fact, Orrin might get started by meeting with Pope Francis who will be visiting the United States soon.
Wouldn't it be something if Pope Francis asked Orrin over to talk liberals, progressives, conservatives and all the rest.
Oh to be a fly on the wall.
