Good day and welcome to DKos Asheville. This is the weekly DKos Asheville open thread where we try to get together every weekend to share with everyone what we're all up to in Western North Carolina and beyond. We hope this group serves to invigorate us locally and regionally here on Daily Kos, building on the sense of community that's grown through our online engagement. DKos Asheville can give us all a better sense of connection, a better understanding of who we stand with, work with, and share with. We hope this community can help leverage our orange passion for progressive politics to elect more and better Democrats.
Asheville's Patsy Keever is running to chair the North Carolina Democratic Party. Current Chair Randy Voller is stepping down. The new Chair will be chosen February 7. People I've talked to who are active in our state's Democratic party have spoken of how difficult it has been getting the state party transformed into an effective organization after the 2010 electoral disaster.
Patsy is well known and highly regarded here in our neck of the woods. She was elected to the Buncombe County Board of Commissioners for three terms. She was elected to the North Carolina legislature in 2010, and ran for the US House in 2012 in the redrawn 10th district. She was elected First Vice-Chair of the North Carolina Democratic Party in 2013.
I met Patsy when she hosted an event in her home for the group I was working with during the 2008 election season; and one of my closest friends has worked on several of her campaigns.
I have been impressed with the vibrancy of our Buncombe County Democrats, and I'm hopeful that Patsy, if elected, can inject some of that energy into the state party.

It's the busy season for elves, and Randall is back out on the road. He's not going to be able to post our Saturday open threads until next January. So we need some help. Ideally, it would be great if someone could take over through the end of the year; short of that, if we could get some folks to take a week or two or three, that would help. Kosmail me, davehouck, if you would like to help out.
It doesn't have to be elaborate; just copy over our meetup information, and then add a few paragraphs that are of interest to you. The main idea is to just provide a space for our group to meet online on Saturdays.

January 17 and 18 will mark DKos Asheville's seventh meet up over the last few years. Over this time we have developed rich relationships, been inspired to register voters, have driven people to the polls, canvassed neighborhoods, and spent endless hours at phone banks. And we have built ourselves a network of like minded brothers and sisters who are in this fight for life. A place we can come to find inspiration, power, solace and community.
So please mark your calendars and plan on joining us for a wonderful weekend of camaraderie, inspiration, networking, fun, food and entertainment.

Cost The gas it takes to get there and of course, the beer, wine and drinks. As one of our event organizers has noted - we are providing five double rooms with meals, etc, etc, etc at no cost to anyone who'd like to attend from out of town. If more rooms are needed we can add them to the package.
