The Daily Bucket is a regular feature of the Backyard Science group. It is a place to note of any observations you have made of the world around you. Insects, weather, meteorites, climate, birds and/or flowers. All are worthy additions to the bucket. Please let us know what is going on around you in a comment. Include, as close as is comfortable for you, where you are located. Each note is a record that we can refer to in the future as we try to understand the patterns that are quietly unwinding around us.
This is the local River Otter Posse they come by once a week or so to scent mark the point just to the south of us. Yesterday, they stopped in for lunch.
Some in light box, but as I was shooting about 800mm zoom, probably not worth it.
Usually they just swim/play on by both directions or stop for a minute on a mussel covered rock for a bite for the road. This time, they got serious about something. Something whitish and blobular(a new word in the BYS lexicon) on the left and maybe a little fishie on the right.
Blobular indeed, could that be a.....naw, nothing eats anenomes.
Well, maybe they do. Interesing, I guess, digusting, but unexpected enough. The originals had
almost good enough resolution to identify what they were eating, but not quite. I'm starting to get a little chilled, should have worn more than a t-shirt. Off the flying bridge (balcony) back to wheelhouse(office), set the camera down. And........
This guy does a low level strafe and steals someones something. Startles otters immensely. He spent a good deal of time pulling whatever apart, blobulars must be tough.
I went out and waited, camera on, pointed, focused, cocked and boresighted. But he just sat there. Brrr, I'm going back inside.
