It seems one GOP
talking head is paying the price…
NBC reports:
The Republican congressional aide who wrote a widely-disseminated Facebook post criticizing President Barack Obama's daughters says that she is resigning today.
Elizabeth Lauten, the communications director for Tennessee Rep. Steven Fincher, told NBC News by phone Monday that her resignation is already "in the works."
Earlier today, Kossack,
therehastobeaway published a
Daily Kos diary regarding the comments a GOP staffer, Elizabeth Lauten, made about the First Daughters, Sasha and Malia Obama. Lauten was quoted:
Dear Sasha and Malia, I get you're both in those awful teen years, but you're a part of the First Family, try showing a little class. At least respect the part you play. Then again your mother and father don't respect their positions very much, or the nation for that matter, so I'm guessing you're coming up a little short in the good role model department. Nevertheless, stretch yourself. Rise to the occasion. Act like being in the White House matters to you. Dress like you deserve respect, not a spot at a bar. And certainly don't make faces during televised public events.
Boom. Swift action and consequences within days.
Yet Rush Limbaugh remains on air…
On his TV show, early in the Clinton administration, Limbaugh put up a picture of Socks, the White House cat, and asked,"Did you know there's a White House dog?"Then he put up a picture of Chelsea Clinton, who was 13 years old at the time and as far as I know had never done any harm to anyone.
Just another day, in the decades, of
Limbaugh's racism, misogyny, homophobia and bigotry. I digress. That battle will continue until it's won. I purposely hijacked my own diary to point out the blatant sexism within the media industry, and point out the fight against Limbaugh and his ilk is far from over:

Elizabeth Lauten losing her job is a victory, and right now, I will bask in that delight. Moments of justice seem rare and fleeting these days.
Oh, but wait. There's more…
UPDATE Thanks to Kossack Lost And Found for pointing out (in the comments) that Elizabeth Lauten has a bit of a 'checkered' teenage past, she does. According to Smoking Gun:
Lauten, pictured above, was arrested in December 2000 for misdemeanor larceny, according to court records. Lauten, then 17, was collared for stealing from a Belk department store in her North Carolina hometown.
Because Lauten was a first-time offender, her case was handled via the District Court’s deferred prosecution program, which resulted in the charge’s eventual dismissal after the future scold stayed out of trouble for a prescribed period.
Since Lauten was just another teenager caught shoplifting at the mall, it appears unlikely that she was publicly pilloried for her lack of class, nor were her parents criticized as poor role models.
Well, there's another one of those 'fleeting moments' in which to delight. Thank you, Smoking Gun. Thank you, social media.
Another great Daily Kos read on the same subject, by Kossack, Sideboth. "Malia and Sasha represent a side of Black America the media is loathe to show."
