Good morning, and at least the Christmas cactus bloomed at the right time. Welcome to Saturday Morning Garden Blogging.
Denver's weather has not been getting me into the mood for Christmas.
The high on December 2nd was 65°. Overnight lows have bobbed around the freezing mark. Average daily temperatures are 5° or so above normal.
And no moisture. We need moisture — always.
The forecast isn't showing any Christmas-type weather coming up, so I'll just have to charge through Christmas preparations without it.
So today I'll be dragging out the Christmas moose, and the garlands and lights for the fireplace mantle, and send the menfolk up the street to hunt for a tree — yup, we have a tree lot in the neighborhood, two blocks up Broadway.
I think I'll tell them to get a small tree; less hassle to decorate and take down but still lends the right ambiance for the holidays.
I've had superb results with rooting brugmansia cuttings this year — every one has developed a strong network of roots, where I usually only about a 75% success rate. I'm wondering if it's because I let the brugs get a good shot of cold this year before putting them into storage. I thought it might put the plants deeper into dormancy, as I had problems with them trying to grow last winter. Now I wonder if the exposure to cold could have caused some change in the trimmed branches that made them easier to root.
That's what's happening here. What's going on in your gardens?
