The logical extension of a long standing morality that justifies imperialistic war and militarism is that the imperial power will use any means it sees fit to hold and expand power. Yet we see a consistent reductionist reaction to each episode as if they were not part of a consistent pattern.
Meanwhile another aspect of that same morality unfolds as more and more unarmed black men are "lynched" by police using guns. This again has raised a reaction but is mainly treated as a piecemeal set of events rather than a pattern that has been very consistent since this country was founded.
The system of government we have is becoming more transparent lately. Read on below to see why this is all part of one system and has been all along.
The very same system exhibits another facet of its morality as it monopolizes the energy we all use. It uses any means possible to keep its monopoly alive.
It also does the same with our food. Organizations like Monsanto and federal agriculture and food policies all are part of the same morality.
The laws that used to inhibit corporate monopoly or oligopoly have been steadily blunted. Part of the same morality.
Tax policies favoring the redistribution of wealth by taking from everyone and giving more to the already rich are part of the same morality.
The biggest problem our culture has developed is the practice of breaking down complex whole systems into parts and then studying the parts in isolation ignoring the interactions and connections that make the system what it is.
This distortion of knowledge is universal and what we call "education" is the misinforming of those being taught because the teachers have this distorted view of reality.
Yes torture is not to be tolerated. Nor should any of the system's moral lapses. The way to deal with these things is to deal with the system in which they originate. Bandaids are not the answer. The system is rotten to the core and needs to be dealt with as a whole.
