NASA's next-generation spacesuits have really driven home that old "life imitates art" saying...
First, there's the "Z1" spacesuit - which looks remarkably Buzz Lightyear-esque:
Then, there's the "Z2" spacesuit - which seems oddly Sontaran in nature:
Granted, NASA and the space program as a whole has
definitely benefited human society & civilization, so it's understandable if the influence and inspiration flows both ways, whether it's the development of space suits that reminiscent of popular sci-fi cultural influences or
advanced warp propulsion systems.
I'm a big fan of space exploration, and the technologies it expands as well as spawns. I think technology can help us to advance in many ways, not the least of which is bringing a greater, more in-depth understanding of the world we live in and the universe it exists within.
So, if "life imitates art" and "art imitates life" blur the lines to the mutual benefit of all, I'm ok with that.
But I still want a hover board, a flying car, a home fusion reactor, and a tardis.
(I am curious, though, about whether Strax was influential in the design & development of the Z2 system...and I'm definitely wondering what direction and references the space suits to come will lurch toward...)
