In 2007 when I began working in Student Loan reform, Albert Lord, CEO of Sallie Mae, was oft demonized as the embodiment of all that was evil in student loans. The company jetted him around on one of the three corporate jets. Mr. Lord built a private, 18-hole golf course on the property of one of his four mansions. Mr. Lord tried to buy the Washington Nationals. All on the back of students and taxpayers. In some cases, he jetted to Florida to golf, brining along John Boehner who logged more miles on the Sallie Mae jets than any other politician.
So it comes as no surprise that Albert Lord now finds himself in the middle of a federal election corruption probe. Stephen Burd over at New American foundation and EdCentral worked hard to gather the information from federal indictments to find Albert Lord at the center.
