A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

Happy Humpday! ~ ¡Feliz Miércoles!
Who is your favorite cartoonist?
I've always loved cartoons, even before I understood that they are one of the oldest forms of political speech in America. When I was a kid, the Sunday edition of our local paper (The Columbian of Clark County, WA) had an entire page of comic strips. That was the very first page of the newspaper that I learned to read regularly. By coincidence the Op-Ed (Opinion and Editorial) page was on the page on the other side of the fold, hence that became the second section of the paper which I regularly read - and started me on my evolution into a political junkie.
I was never happier than when I saw that Markos (kos) had decided to add a Cartoons vertical to the Daily Kos family, as a way to both include this oldest of American political commentary here at Daily Kos AND as a way to encourage political cartoonists to continue to publish to a wide audience including that of the online variety.
Some of the strips of wit and wonder which graced the pages of the paper when I first started reading them (in the mid-1970s) were:
Beetle Bailey
The Family Circle (eventually renamed The Family Circus)
Doonesbury
Garfield
Hägar the Horrible
Archie
Cathy
Bloom County (which I always mis-read as Bloom Country)
Calvin and Hobbes
Dennis the Menace
Dick Tracy
The Flintstones
The Far Side
Heathcliff
Betty Boop
L'il Abner
Little Lulu
Marmaduke
Peanuts
Pogo
Popeye
Prince Valiant
Superman
Batman
There Oughta Be A Law! (fyi: the cartoonist, Al Fagaly, moved to my hometown in the 1930s and became the Staff Cartoonist for The Columbian, our local newspaper since 1908)
These cartoons reflected the current state of politics and the world, although as a youngster, I only thought they were entertainment.
A few examples of some of them, all used under Fair Use to show the style and type of Cartoons in US newspapers in the 1970s:
Family Circus by Bil and Jeff Keane
Bloom County by Berkeley Breathed
Beetle Bailey by Mort Walker
I've found quite a few new favorite cartoonists
right here at Daily Kos in recent years:
Eric Lewis (ericlewis0), @AnimalNuz)
Keith Knight (K Chronicles), @KeefKnight)
Jen Sorenson (JenSorensen.com, @JenSorensen)
Tom Tomorrow (This Modern World, @TomTomorrow)
Mark Fiore (Mark Fiore.com, @MarkFiore)
Matt Wuerker (Politico.com/Wuerker, @wuerker)
Ruben Bolling aka Ken Fisher (TomTheDancingBug.com, @RubenBolling
Brian McFadden (Big Fat Whale.com, @BigFatWhale
Matt Bors (MattBors.com, @MattBors)
Lalo Alcaraz (Lalo Alcaraz.com, @laloalcaraz)
PLEASE, when it comes to social media, do all of these hard-working Cartoonists a solid and when you see their work unattributed, please mention it to the person who posted their work without permission or attribution and add a link to the Cartoonist (like a URL or their @Twitter link). I (and I'm sure the cartoonists) will thank you for it.
as always...

by Thinking Fella ♥ for Four Corners Kossacks
There are meet-ups and then, there are EPIC meet-ups. The current designate always upstages the previous one. And that is precisely what Thinking Fella has done with this event. We were all green with envy when he announced it with just a few short weeks notice. He had a fantastic turnout anyway. Try to top this event. With 58 scenic photos of gorgeous Colorado and wonderful Kossacks, Thinking Fella showed us who's boss when it comes to meet-ups. He holds the trophy now. Who wants to take it away from him? Throw your gauntlet down at any time.
It's important to note that this terrific diary inspired 8 more people to join the Four Corners Kossacks. Again, Thinking Fella knows what he's doing. High five, buddy!
