I will start with the conclusion of the NYT Editorial Board from their leader today
Republicans scoff at accusations that they are waging a war against women. But this should not obscure a basic fact: The ability of women to control their reproductive lives is essential for their health, careers and equality.
Hence trying to remove this basic right is a direct attack; to be in control of ones own body is fundamental. Reducing women to organisms under state control, is a usurpation of women's rights. If this is not a "war on women" then I don't know what is.
If you cannot exercise your rights, then in effect it is a removal of rights
The start of 2015 finds no letup in the attacks on a woman’s constitutionally protected right to make her own childbearing decisions. Republican lawmakers and organizations devoted to dismantling reproductive freedom have succeeded in shrinking the already inadequate number of abortion providers, making it exceedingly difficult, if not impossible, for women — especially young and poor women — to obtain safe and legal abortion services in large swaths Texas and other parts of the country.
Then you menace potential providers
Criminal penalties, fines and reporting requirements would scare off doctors from helping women in need of competent and compassionate care.
For all the grandstanding by Republicans over freedom from big government, it has become abundantly clear to whom they think this applies:
To men and specifically rich white men.
.
Its main target is Planned Parenthood, which provides access to birth control, and breast and cervical cancer screening for millions of low-income women, and offers abortion services.
It important to note that abortion is only one part of their services, but hell, they don't care.
There are no provisions in their legislation that actually protects women.
There is no reference to scientific and medical data.
I suppose that their reply would be "I'm not an expert, but I believe...."
Add to this their attitudes towards rape and domestic violence, how they perceive single mothers and the rhetoric surrounding all our rights, is it any wonder that many of us see this as:
A war on women.
Republicans really do struggle with trying to justify their inherent misogyny with complete and utter ignorance.
They can scoff all they like, but it is absolutely clear that they are at heart authoritarian misogynists. They can decry that they are for "our freedom" at every turn, they are liars. They can talk about the problems of big government until they are blue in the face, in effect they are the ultimate purveyors of big government.
