The Pinellas County (Fla.) Sheriff's Office ordered new rugs embroidered with the logo of the Sheriff's Department for a new building
In what it charitably called a "typo," the rugs were embroidered with "In Dog We Trust."
The rugs were in the lobby for months. When an employee discovered the error, they were removed.
The sheriff's department decided to put them up for auction on-line, after extensive interest in the rugs. That auction is now closed. Due to the way the bidding is set up on the site, the bids are by fifty dollar increments.
That means two people were willing to pay $9,600 for the rugs. There were eighty-three bids. Close-up pictures of the rug are available at the auction site link above.
As the Pinellas County Sheriff's Department noted on the auction:
The Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office will not “sweep anything under the rug.” Due to extensive interest regarding our plans for the “doggone” rug, you can bid on it here, and we will donate 100% of your bid to a local animal rescue.
As
noted by CBS:
Auction proceeds will go to Canine Estates, a Palm Harbor nonprofit for injured and abandoned animals.
Thank Dog.
It would seem that Dog works in mysterious ways. . . .
