Oklahoma State Rep. Sally Kern
Oklahoma State Rep. Sally Kern has outdone herself, introducing a spate of bills in the state legislature designed to take rights away from LGBT citizens. Barbara Hoberock
for Tulsa World has the details:
House Bill 1599 is dubbed the “Preservation and Sovereignty of Marriage Act.” House Bill 1598 is called the “Freedom to Obtain Conversion Therapy Act.” A third measure would allow businesses to refuse to provide services to the gay community, among others.
That last one is one of those "religious freedom" bills that's actually a right to discriminate bill.
Same-sex marriage was legalized last fall in Oklahoma after a federal court overturned the state's ban on gay marriage and the Supreme Court declined to hear an appeal.
You may remember our ol' gal Sally from a hysterical episode in 2008 in which she claimed homosexuality was a bigger threat to the nation than terrorism.
"Studies show that no society that has totally embraced homosexuality has lasted more than, you know, a few decades. So it’s the death knell of this country. I honestly think it’s the biggest threat our nation has, even more so than terrorism or Islam, which I think is a big threat."
Unfortunately, she wasn't on tap this week to make any enlightening comments about her most recent legislative attempts to save America. Her spokesperson said she was too busy celebrating her wedding anniversary.
