No of course America isn't a Christian Nation, a JudeoChristian Nation, or a JudeoChristlamic Nation.
This diary is just an opportunity for me to pimp the term Judeo-Christlamic.
Now we could just use the term Abrahamic Religions but that wouldn't be nearly as fun.
As a Jew I have always been annoyed by the term "Judeo Christian". I don't even know what the heck it means. I have always thought it was used by Christians who really wanted to say "Christian", but realized it would be uncouth in certain situations like "our nations JudeoChristian heritage".
That way they sort of get around that whole icky first amendment no established religion thingy and avoid offending off the few people they know or know some people who know.
Now to tell the truth, some of my people are nuts. Some of everybodys people are nuts. Follow below to see more:
Some of these nuts at the Jewish World Daily
made an attempt at it which includes:
But what does "Judeo-Christian" mean? We need to know. Along with the belief in liberty — as opposed to, for example, the European belief in equality, the Muslim belief in theocracy, and the Eastern belief in social conformity — Judeo-Christian values are what distinguish America from all other countries. That is why American coins feature these two messages: "In G-d we trust" and "Liberty."
I didn't realize American's didn't believe in equality, but the fact you think we don't is quite telling isn't it ?
Muslim belief in theocracy???
Well the muslims have Shariah law, but Jews have Halachic law.... and they aint all that different...
JudeoChristlamic has alot of weaknesses. It ignores the other Abrahamic Religions like the Druze and the Bahai faith. It leaves out non Abrahamic faiths like Buddhsim, Hinduism and tons of others. I'm sorry guys.
However the fact that it specifically recognizes the relationship between the scary terrists of Islam and real american Christians is just too good to pass up. Many of these folks don't know the difference between a muslim and a sikh anyway.
Lewis Black has a great take on old versus new testament.
