The verbiage from the Republican Party has shifted in the past month. For years, decades, the Republicans have been portrayed as the party of the rich, supporting trickle down approaches
But in the past month, Mitt Romney, Mitch McConnell, and John Boehner have spoken in very different terms. As we all know, the Republicans are good at messaging.
On Obama's proposal to end 529 plans, Boehner today said
"It's another example of his outdated top-down approach when our focus ought to be on providing opportunity for all Americans,"
Huh? The Democratic party is for a top down approach? Is this upside down?
a few weeks ago, Mittchimed in
"The rich have gotten richer, income inequality has gotten worse and there are more people in poverty than ever before under this president."
we all laughed. obvious he was hypocritical. But all mainstream Republicans are piling on now.
per Jeb
“While the last eight years have been pretty good ones for top earners, they’ve been a lost decade for the rest of America.”
The key thing to pay attention is someone in a Republican think tank has figured out that this is a good startegy to go with in a National election. Run as the "middle class party" even though they are the party for the rich. The media buys any narative thrown at them.. they do not think or analyze, they repeat. As you know, our party struggles in media messaging. If this train continues, the debate in 2016 may well be how the Democratic party is for the rich. With the right candidate who can pitch this, it may be a tough lie to overcome.
We must change the message now and define the debate.
UPDATE from TPM, from NBC
Mitt Romney tonight will be giving a major speech on this matter
How can Secretary Clinton provide opportunity for all if she doesn't know where jobs come from in the first place?"
"Short term, our economy is looking up," Romney plans to say. "But it is a lot better for the few, and pretty darn discouraging for the many. Incomes haven't gone up in decades."
.
It is clear the Republicans are trying to get out on front of this issue now. Romey, Jeb, McConnell, and Boehner are the mainstream guys, all on the same page
REC LIST! thanks!!
