A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us at Daily Kos every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

Do you have private sacred spaces near you?
A moment of Zen from Wildcat Canyon.
I inadvertantly aided and abetted in setting up a sacred spot recently.
My roommate Kam and I walked up the street to Wildcat Canyon two days ago. We followed the creek until we came to a semi-isolated spot where the sun appeared only as dramatic sun bursts of a few inches through the foliage overhead. I found myself lost in thoughts for about fifteen minutes and lost track of what my roommate was doing just a few feet from me.
When I turned around I was stunned to see that she had erected three pyramid-shaped rock towers on a log in the middle of the creek. Behind that Kam had tilted upright a branch fallen from a nearby tree and had hung moss from it. I tried not to say anything once I realized what she was doing. I think the worst thing to do when someone is in the process of creating is to comment on it or ask what they are doing.
Wanderers.
After an hour or so we left and went home to get my rinky-tinky camera. I made sure that time to stay up above as she descended down to the creek to take photos. I believe se wanted to take photos because she knows that such personal sacred places are by definition temporary. In fact, when I went back yesterday I made sure to hike back up to the same location. The personal sacred place had already been transformed, though whether by nature or kids splashing I don't know.
Do you have personal sacred spaces/places and have you ever constructed any?

Seattle & Puget Sound Kos welcomed Joan McCarter, Meteor Blades, Monique Teal and navajo to their meet-up on January 17th. Almost 40 people attended. All had a great time mingling, listening to the DKos speakers and then finishing up with a Q&A session. Good food, great location and most of all great Kossacks.
