A daily series, Connect! Unite! Act! seeks to create face-to-face networks in each congressional district. Groups regularly socialize but also get out the vote, support candidates and engage in other local political actions that help our progressive movement grow and exert influence on the powers-that-be. Visit us every morning at 7:30 A.M. Pacific Time to see how you can get involved. The comment thread is fun and light-hearted, but we're serious about moving the progressive political agenda forward.

Good morning Kogs and Kossacks in Dailykosland!
Let's start the working week with a Moral Monday.
Did you watch television last night?
Yeah, yeah, the SuperBowl. I'm not going there!
Lots of other stuff was on television last night.
Super Bowl counterprogramming is a serious thing. The NFL championship is such a huge television event that it even increases the ratings of other channels that aren't showing the game!
First of all, there are the direct spin-offs. I always spend some time watching the Puppy Bowl. I can't just jump into the Super Bowl hype when I get home after my usual 12 hour Sunday workday. So I always take a look at the Puppy Bowl and sometimes I even tape it to watch later!
Last year was the first year for the Kitten Bowl, and I missed it last year, so I want to make sure to check it out this year. I'm not so sure that kittens can be prodded into playfulness as easily as puppies, but if the woozles can have a counterprogramming show, so can the pooties.
It's also the second year for, you knew it had to come some day, the Fish Bowl. Similar to the Yule Log program shown at Christmastime, it's just a single camera watching a single goldfish swim around a bowl. For four straight hours. I'm sure it's quite meditative.
While 100+ million people were watching American football, there were lots of other sports on TV last night.
The South American Football Confederation showed some "real" football – a live match between Uruguay and Paraguay.
For tennis fans, the women's and men's finals of The Australian Open were on. The Golf Channel had the final round of the Phoenix Open. There was boxing on Pay Per View (Silva vs. Diaz). The MLB Network aired a five-hour documentary on the history of the World Series. And poker isn't really a sport, but ESPN rebroadcast the 2014 finals of the World Series of Poker.
You didn't have to watch sports at all. The movie channels pulled out some tried and true favorites and some newer classics: Tootsie, Back to the Future, How to Train Your Dragon, Rocky, Philomena, The American President, The Green Mile, and Hobbit: Desolation of Smaug.
There were mini-marathons of all kinds of popular series: Criminal Minds, Psych, L&O:SVU, CSI:Miami; Cops, Star Trek the Next Generation, and The Walking Dead.
Ovation showed all six hours of the 1995 Pride and Prejudice Remake starring Jennifer Ehle and Colin Firth.
Some of the counterprogramming was hour after hour of shows I personally am glad I missed: Wives with Knives, Dukes of Hazzard, Gangsters—America's Most Evil, Alaska State Troopers, Alaskan Bush People (is Sarah Palin responsible for this spate of Alaska shows?), and Worst Cooks in America.
MSNBC, instead of taking us to prison, had for some unknown reason a Sex Slaves marathon, and The Learning Channel showed back to back episodes of Sex Sent Me to the ER.
And of course there was lots more sex on the Adult Programming channels—I have those titles blocked :-D
This doesn't even get to the wide variety of choices available on demand, on Roku, on Netflix, or elsewhere on line.
Did you watch The Big Game? Did you deliberately avoid watching The Big Game? Did you avoid watching TV at all last night? Do you usually avoid watching TV, so yesterday was nothing different?
What (if anything) did you watch on television last night?

Seattle & Puget Sound Kos welcomed Joan McCarter, Meteor Blades, Monique Teal and navajo to their meet-up on January 17th. Almost 40 people attended. All had a great time mingling, listening to the DKos speakers and then finishing up with a Q&A session. Good food, great location and most of all great Kossacks.

DKos Asheville's Roadtrip and Two-Day Retreat to Roanoke, Virginia
From randallt:
After seven successful and engaging meet ups, DKos Asheville's core members decided to take our next gathering on the road. The first reason was that our chef and benefactor for all our meet ups has been Gordon20024 and we wanted say thanks by traveling to be with him instead of having him drive to be with us. We asked and he was thrilled and so the idea was born. Another reason is that it offers us the opportunity to meet more Kossacks from around the region including Virginia and parts of North Carolina to the north and east of us.
Grow our network, grow our community, help win elections.
