My neighbor now selling on eBay the "gun range" we pressured him into dismantling. What you see there stood between my neighbors and Joey's bullets.
No kidding. After other people gave him freebies in return for tearing down his front yard gun range, the 21 year old would be shooter is hawking his painted pallet -- that was to be the target -- on eBay.
He has even signed it:
I have signed the pallet in the upper right hand corner. This will be part of Florida's history due to the law being changed because of this. You can keep it as a history piece or shoot the hell out of it like I planned on.
Stay classy Joey.
Well, this is America where everything is a profit opportunity, so why not. Truth is, I don't wish Mr. Carannante any ill will. He's 21 and like many 21 year olds, he's foolish and, as the saying goes, full of piss an vinegar. At this point he's just a tool (maybe both literally and figuratively) for us to keep this story alive in the media.
So help me do that, we want to buy the painted pallet you see here and take it in a caravan up to Tallahassee, right to the capital steps. We want everyone to see all that separated our neighbors from a bullet. But there's an interesting angle here...
...It seems there are a few bidders. Of these, there is one who is a gun enthusiast and it is clear this person has set a pre-set maximum bid because every bid we put in gets immediately countered. Clearly the no-hold-barred gun people don't want this thing on the steps of the Capital. It would be very bad optics for them.
This past week a number of you have asked me to set up a PayPal account to help us fight this fight. We've been okay so far, but now it is time to ask. We are have a few things cooking to bring this wider attention and to apply greater statewide pressure on our legislators, but I can't do it all any more from my pocket.
We've set up an account at PayPal and can now accept donations at frontyardgunrange@gmail.com. I'm committed to this mission and we've been successful so far on the guerilla front. I was on the news again last night on our local NBC station and that story is once again hitting other markets. Friday, I woke to find the news at the UK's Daily Mail. Absurdity sells I guess, and this could not get more absurd, were it not so deadly. One man is already dead. How many more must die before this law gets fixed?
Representative Darryl Rouson on Friday entered a bill -- HB623 -- seeking to close the loophole in Florida law that allows residential shooting. Progress is being made and it has all begun at the grass roots level. Help us to keep on fighting until, as I told the camera last night, this is under the pen of Governor Scott.
Thank you for helping us keep this story alive.
