The 700 Club comes on at 11pm on my cable ABC Family in place of standard programming. I usually reach for the remote to immediately change it. Tonight I wasn't quick enough and the next thing I know Pat Robertson is telling me about a Jeb Bush fundraising event in New York City that cost $100,000 per plate. Without expressing any dismay or negativity to that number he immediately transitions to the fact that 46 million Americans are getting food stamps. This number however has him and his pretty co-host shaking their heads in disapproval.
How in the world did we get to a place where charging 100k so rich folks can plot to buy the presidency is perfectly fine but feeding poor kids is bad? The fundraiser is being hosted by Henry Kravis and is expected to garner the Jeb Bush SuperPac 50 to 100 million dollars. Think about that, approximately a tenth of the estimated cost of the GOP 2016 campaign will be raised in one sitting with super wealthy Wall Street bankers. Politico Article
The fact that a Bush is trying to buy the presidency comes as no surprise to me but the fact that a so called Christian minister would insidiously indicate that rich people have to do this because of all those awful little moochers does. Crazy me thought that Christ wanted to feed the poor and throw the money changers out of the temple. What about suffer the little children or the meek inheriting the earth? This version of GOP Christianity is not the Christianity I grew up with and my parents were Republicans. We need to make sure in 2016 that even voters that watch the 700 club know that wealth redistribution is real. It started 35 years ago and it's name is trickle down economics. Meaning the 1% keeps it all and you are a lazy ungrateful peasant.
