Welcome to Sunday All Day Brunch. This is an open topic thread so help yourself to the goodies and let us know what is new with you. One of the things astronomers is doing is searching for planets that could sustain life on them. They are looking at exoplanets that have a similar makeup to our world where carbon based life can exist. Sometimes it is hard to know if they are looking to see if we are not alone or if there is someplace else we can go if we screw Earth up to bad.
In our solar system it would be possible with a lot of work to have colonies on the moon and Mars. We would have to bring our atmosphere with us. The two places where life could potentially exist now in the solar system are in the oceans of Jupiter's moon Europa and Saturn's moon Enceladus.
Outside of our solar system there has been a lot of speculation about Kepler-186f in the Cygnus constellation. Its star is a red dwarf so it would be darker than life on Earth but other factors seem to make it a promising place to look.
Science Fiction has long speculated about extra terrestrial beings. For the most part writers tend to keep the beings at least somewhat humanoid. We are mostly interested in carbon based life such as occurs on Earth. That doesn't mean that theoretically non carbon based life might exist but would man know what he was looking at if he saw it?
When I do art I generally tend to put humanoid beings in the picture and big cats of course since obviously they are the most advanced life form there is according to them.
What do you think? Are we alone? Would aliens look like us? What kind of life would you like to see be discovered?
