So many of you have asked for updates on Joan and Isis. You have also asked how you can help. Some of you wanted to send books for Joan to read. Some of you have sent cards to her. You have all cared.
As I told you I would do, here is the latest on these two extraordinary beings... Joan and her wonderful cat Isis.
It's a good, really good, thing.
Rather than post a ton of links I will tell you that their story has been published widely. After a few Internet publications wrote about it the story was picked up by the Orlando Sun Sentinel, Pittsburgh Gazette and others. I will link you to them through Isis and Joan's Facebook page, now sporting over 1200 members.
Along with all of the notoriety Joan continues to receive cards and gifts, as do the other five folks residing in the residence. The whole thing is beyond organic. Joan, given two months to live in November, is still going strong, albeit in more pain and more weakened.
The decision was made by the rescuers of Isis that to rehome her in Michingan, where a willing and happy family awaited her, would put undue stress and heartache on both Joan and Isis. They are so very connected and one is good for the other in the best way.
So the rescuers and foster put forth a plan to rehome Isis right there in Florida where she could still visit Joan and Joan could have her time with Isis, rather than be separated by such a distance.
Enter Edie, a lovely woman whose black kitty, Raven, succumbed to illness in November and died. Edie is otherwise alone, wanted to adopt a black kitty, knowing they have a lesser chance in the world and applied for Isis when she learned of the story.
After thoroughly vetting Edie our two heroines took Isis to visit. It was mutual love at first sight with both Edie and Isis cuddling happily. Isis doesn't just do that so this was important. She was comfy with Edie.
Edie met with Joan, Isis, and our rescue angels last weekend and it's a go! Edie is adopting Isis! And will bring her at least twice a week to visit with Joan. Our angels are still very involved and will oversee all of this. It's a good thing. No, a great one.
There is still a fund for Joan and our angels bring her treats. There has been a pizza party with guitar entertainment for the residents of the home. They all got Valentine goodies.
We don't know how long Joan has. But she will have Isis and her angels with her for the entire time. And Isis is safe, loved and at home. And still having time with her Mom for as long as that can be.
Isn't this the most loving, wonderful story out of so many sad and horrific ones? Yes, it is.
