This is all kinda f*cked up right here... A disabled Marine veteran has had his benefits cut off and his bank account seized because the VA has listed him as deceased.
From the local Fox affiliate in San Francisco:
The former F-18 mechanic with the U.S. Marine Corps was honorably discharged in 2011. He is 60% disabled from his service, so he gets disability benefits as well as GI benefits from the VA.
He works as a truck driver now, but that VA money paid his rent, and now it's gone. For a short time it was reinstated after he notified the VA that he's alive.
But not anymore. Apparently the U.S. Department of Treasury also told them he's dead.
Then it closed his bank account.
WHAT. THE. F*CK??
They seem to have exceeded their initial goal already, but if you want to help out this former serviceman he has a gofundme page here.
9:26 PM PT: Did a little more digging and it looks like the story was originally broken by WJBK the Fox affiliate in Detroit and the young Marine, Mark Ellis, lives in Dearborn, MI.
