We may have suspected it all along, but now there's polling evidence: Republicans nationwide hate the Constitution:
A majority of Republicans nationally support establishing Christianity as the national religion, according to a new Public Policy Polling survey released Tuesday.
The poll by the Democratic-leaning firm found that 57 percent of Republicans "support establishing Christianity as the national religion" while 30 percent are opposed. Another 13 percent said they were not sure.
It almost goes without saying that the Establishment Clause of the Constitution prohibits establishing of a national religion.
The
poll (PDF), by Public Policy Polling, surveyed 316 Republican primary voters between February 20 and February 22.
Here are a few other entertaining findings:
- Their most favored candidates for 2016 are (favorable-unfavorable) Ben Carson 54%-8%, Scott Walker 51%-10%, and Mike Huckabee 56%-19%
- They DO NOT LIKE Chris Christie
- 66% do not believe in global warming
- 49% do not believe in evolution
The actual question asked about Christianity:
Would you support or oppose establishing Christianity as the national religion?
Support establishing Christianity as the national religion |
57% |
Oppose establishing Christianity as the national religion |
30% |
Not sure |
13% |
Too bad the pollsters didn't follow that up by asking whether they believe that Christianity
already is the established national religion. Republicans certainly act like they do.
Also, I'd really like to hear how they square that with the First Amendment to the United States Constitution:
Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof
Not very patriotic of them.
