Kitchen Table Kibitzing is a community series for those who wish to share part of the evening around a virtual kitchen table with kossacks who are caring and supportive of one another. So bring your stories, jokes, photos, funny pics, music, and interesting videos, as well as links—including quotations—to diaries, news stories, and books that you think this community would appreciate. Readers may notice that most who post diaries and comments in this series already know one another to some degree, but newcomers should not feel excluded. We welcome guests at our kitchen table, and hope to make some new friends as well.

Oh, imitation. Is it really the sincerest form of flattery? I got to thinking about imitation today, when my daughter sent me this:
If you have five minutes, it contains some wicked impressions. You might not even want your five minutes back...
Two of my favorite material borrowers today are 2Cellos, whose covers sound better to me on the cello than when I first heard the songs back in the day. One of my favorites right now is
Trooper Overture, which connects William Tell Overture to Iron Maiden's The Trooper. Bonus points for all of you who tried to convince your parents that metal really was based on the classics.
Full on parody is good for the soul -- maybe better than suds. Gotta have a little Flashbeer...
And some things are blisteringly brilliant -- Tina Fey lampooning Sarah Palin with (almost) her own words comes to mind.
There are times when imitation goes well, and other times it can get ugly. The most well-intentioned borrowing of material can come off as cheap or insulting, and then it doesn't go so well. No sense in mentioning any of those!
So, what are your favorite imitations, covers, and lampoons?
