sadly ironic
Ex-Arizona sheriff Richard Mack is facing serious financial issues. Neither he nor his wife have medical insurance and both have been hospitalized (in recent months)
with serious medical issues. This is a terribly unfortunate situation for anyone and I wouldn't wish it upon anyone—even Richard Mack.
As a libertarian Mack has written longwindedly about how to "Stop Obama":
So do the States have to take the bullying of the federal government? Not hardly! The States do not have to take or support or pay for Obamacare or anything else from Washington DC. The States are not subject to federal direction.
Sheriff Mack's website proudly champions the fact that his gun control lawsuit against the Clinton administration is being used in
attempts to nullify the ACA in South Carolina.
The Mack/Printz case was the case that set Sheriff Mack on a path of nationwide renown as he and Sheriff Printz sued the Clinton administration over unconstitutional gun control measures, were eventually joined by other sheriffs for a total of seven, went all the way to the supreme court and won.
And now, from his
website:
In November of 2014, Richard Mack's wife Dawn was hospitalized with serious medical issues. Then, in early January of 2015, Richard suffered a heart attack that required surgery. Because they are self-employed, they have no medical insurance and are in desperate need of our assistance. Please follow this link to learn more about how you can donate.
This is one of the many reasons I support a universal healthcare program and why, with all of its many flaws, I've supported the Affordable Care Act. This is not gloating. This is the brutal reality of health insurance in our country. It is the very reason so many people wanted a
national healthcare program in the first place.
If you believe in prayer you should probably save a few words for Mr. Mack and his family. If you do not believe in prayer you should save a few nice words for your loved ones and make sure they sign up for healthcare.
