Still practicing.
House Speaker John Boehner's caucus
is in chaos, and members have been told to stick around for more votes tonight and potentially over the weekend.
Boehner has several options:
1) Finally, just put the Senate's "clean" bill on the floor and fund Homeland Security through September. Democrats are on board—it would likely pass, if only Boehner has the guts to put it on the floor.
Rep. Mike Simpson, an ally of Speaker John Boehner, suggested that the House could pass some version of the long-term Senate funding bill with the votes of "Democrats and a few of the adults" on the GOP side. An even shorter-term funding measure is also possible.
2) Try to whip more votes on the 3-week extension bill that just went down in flames, inviting a second humiliating #fail on the same bill in the same day.
3) Put a bill on the floor that only funds Homeland Security for one week (this has been rumored). But hey, why one week when he could just do a continuing resolution for, say, 45 minutes in perpetuity?
4) SHUTDOWN (which happens just a little under six hours from now).
Stay tuned…
