I will absolutely NOT let Democrats try to fund Homeland Security.
Remember
that obscure rule that might allow House Democrats to force a vote on the Senate's "clean" bill to fund Homeland Security through September 30? Well, no surprise here: Iowa
Rep. Steve "cantaloupe" King can't stand the idea of funding Homeland Security
without provisions that target undocumented immigrants.
To that end, King's written a resolution that would block House Democrats from forcing a vote on the "clean" funding bill. Here's the text of that resolution from his site:
"Resolved, That any motion pursuant to clause of rule XXII relating to the bill H.R. 240 may be offered only by the Majority Leader or his designee."
A
press release on his site adds:
“House Democrats voted last week for the one-week DHS funding bill because they knew they would have the power to call up the DHS amnesty funding bill for a vote this week,” said King. “They are poised to take control of the floor and fund executive amnesty. A House Resolution can stop it, if we amend Rule XXII. …
This is why I have drafted a resolution that will amend the Rule so that only the Majority Leader or his designee can offer the privileged resolution on the DHS bill. I urge my colleagues to join me in this fight for upholding and restoring the Constitution. The time to fight is now.”
Once again, this comes down to a question of Speaker John Boehner's leadership,
which is at the lowest of lows. Can he face down King and the crazies or is he under their thumb?
