Our Capitol may be a bit presumptuous these days. It certainly does not belong to us, the American people, as much as it should.
But that's not what I want to talk about.
How far has the Republican Party fallen.
That's not a question. That is a rhetorical lament.
The so-called party of patriotism. How can they continue to wave that banner anymore?
They have invited a foreign leader to the statehouse of our nation to criticize and chastise our own American leader.
Can we all agree that this is a new level of buffoonery and utter disgrace?
Now, I can't hide my disdain for Netanyahu very much. I was entirely disgusted by his open meddling in our 2012 US elections. That alone is enough to mark him as being nothing but a saboteur of our country's democratic process.
And I'm not saying America, Obama, or its policies are above reproach. We have some very terrible foreign policy in the world, and should be called out on it. We Americans ourselves have a right to speak out against it, as it is our representatives and our taxmoney and our lives going out there overseas. And other countries are well within their rights of criticizing the United States themselves.
But Republicans are supposed to represent all things America. They attack Obama for allegedly not loving the country. For not wearing a damn flag pin. They make us change the name of french fries to freedom fries.
So much for that obsessive patriotic conviction. Obama is not their guy, has been them at the polls twice, so suddenly he's deserving of a embarrassment like no other President before him. (Allegedly; seems far more embarrassing to the Boehner and the GOP, if you ask me)
I know I'm not the only one who sees how utterly ridiculous this is, am I? Would Republicans have entertained Congressional Democrats inviting Jacques Chirac to speak against Bush? Invite Putin? Would anyone have been alright with inviting Stalin to speak out against any of our Cold War Presidents?
This is so outrageous. Republicans should not be allowed to wear the ideal of patriotism. They never should have been allowed to, but they definitely shouldn't be allowed to anymore. I know that most of us have already let loose the deception that their patriotism is anything more than opportunistic propaganda. But the American people are still being fed this line, this perception, that Republicans stand for all things American, no matter how unreasonable and despicable. Will they take notice when such a glaring beacon of treachery exposes that lie for all to see?
This is not meant as an attack on the Israeli people. But inviting another foreign leader, ally or foe, to publicly chastise our President is a new low. They can do it from their podium from their own nation. And we Americans can do it in our country of free speech. But don't go inviting them to do here what only we have the right to do.
Boehner has boehned up the Republican image with this invitation to Netanyahoo. Just like he boehned up his speakership. Just like he boehned up every opportunity to corral his Tea Party wing, and will continue to boehn whatever crisis comes his way for the remainder of his tenure in office.
I'm sure the mainstream media will not sufficiently deride Boehner for this boehnheaded move, but I hope this becomes much fuel to raise the awareness of the American people of the lunacy the Republican Party has reduced our governance down to.
