Today in Jotters High Impact Posts in the "Two Years Ago In Daily Kos" section was a Diary by Meteor Blades titled Antonin Scalia on tape that included links and an audio recording of Justice Scalia's argument for gutting the Voting Rights Act.
Cutting through all the "argle bargle", Scalila's basic argument for removing the section 4 formula that gives section 5 it's teeth - the pre-clearance requirement of the Voting Rights act for repeat offenders -> (those states and precincts in the US that have a history of and continue to disenfranchise voters they don't want voting to this day) - is this. What Scalia was trying to sell as justice is his claim that the Voting Rights Act amounted to nothing more than:
“The Perpetuation of Racial Entitlement”
Scalia's judicial or theoretical "purity"or whatever it can be labeled is completely backwards. In reality his extra-judicial ministrations achieve exactly the opposite in the real world. Protecting the historically privileged and entitled while disenfranchising the "others" - imo
This isn't the first time I've wanted to embed a soundcloud audio file, so in the next step I'll try and show a way to do it
Here is what the newer embed HTML format looks like, which front page writers regularly use successfully:
new version HTML
older version HTML that anyone can use to embed the desired audio soundcloud
# # #
So you've found an audio sound cloud you'd like to share but it is in the newer HTML format and won't embed. Try this.
In order to make this work, copy and paste the launch code numbers from the newer non-embeddable 'iframe' code that is after the /tracks/ I’ve highlighted in red in the above captured picture of the code, and place those numbers into the two places in the older 'object' HTML where I’ve highlighted in green keeping/including the 2F at the beginning. You'll be getting rid of the existing numbers which are of Scalia's vile audio and replacing them with the audio of your choosing
Here I've backslashed the older version so it wouldn't render (show up as a soundcloud ready to play) and can be copied and saved to be used (pasted) whenever a newer version that won't embed needs the older treatment. Copy this HTML:
<object height="81" width="100%"><param name="movie" value="https://player.soundcloud.com/player.swf?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F81388206" /> <param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always" /> <embed allowscriptaccess="always" height="81" src="https://player.soundcloud.com/player.swf?url=http%3A%2F%2Fapi.soundcloud.com%2Ftracks%2F81388206" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="100%" /></object>
Here I've copied and pasted from the above HTML to give it a test to see if it works:
Yay
Note: not all of the HTML is necessary. Looking back up to captured picture of the older HTML where I highlighted the important launch identifying numbers in green, you'll see it is in three sections. It will actually work with just the bottom most section where it starts with the word embed. It will show up like this:
Hope that helps anyone who has wanted to embed a soundcloud audio file.
- good luck, and if people find this useful, I've discovered some easy ways to navigate the Daily Kos search engine that could be useful - maybe next time - ♫♪♫
