Will Roger's jokes aside, what the heck is wrong with the Democratic party? Do the Dems have minimal competence to shape the larger public debate? Take one example: visit Steve Benen's Rachel Maddow blog, or the NYT, from the other day to see the succession of stories evidencing the failure of Republican policies:
1. Scott Walker's Wisconsin is getting blown out of the water by next door Minnesota, whose governor is following the opposite of all of Walker's policies. http://www.msnbc.com/...
2. Sam Brownback has so devastated Kansas's finances that he is considering jumping on the medicaid expansion as a lifeline. http://www.msnbc.com/...
3. Chris Christie's NJ is not only a wreck; Christie is under investigation for abruptly settling a decade old, $8.9 billion lawsuit against Exxon for just $250 million, and using the money to plug his budget shortfall, not environmental cleanup. http://www.msnbc.com/...
4. The states immediately crushed if the ACA plaintiffs win are Republican Southern states, including predominantly their white American citizens (contrary to their dog-whistles). http://www.nytimes.com/...
Those are just the breaking stories . . . Considering that Dems should be engaged in the larger ideological war, shouldn't we see Dems shooting fish-in-the-barrel on all these issues? Is there any explanation for the Dems safe, defensive and cautious crouch with all this evidence to work with?
Mystifying . . . This really shouldn't be left to Bob Reich to write sidebar columns on HuffPo
