It appears that the University of Oklahoma fraternity, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, isn't the only fraternity with issues. UT Austin's Phi Gamma Delta (known as Fiji) has some very offensive rules that have given it some (deserved) bad publicity. Some of those rules include no Mexicans, no interracial dating, and no 'fagetry'.
From The New Civil Rights Movement:
The nation this week was shocked when video surfaced showing University of Oklahoma students, members of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity, chanting a racist song. "There will never be a n****r at SAE," the members pledged.
Now, the Chicago Sun Times reports that racist chant may be linked to another fraternity at the University of Texas, Austin.
One user of the popular social media site Reddit posted a photo of a set of confidential rules for pledges from Phi Gamma Delta (known as Fiji) at the Univ. of Texas.
Those rules, while they include "no drugs," and "Respect the Ladies," also include offensive ones like "No interracial dating," "no Mexicans," and â in all caps â "NO FAGETRY."
That last misspelled rule apparently means no gay people.
From
kvue.com:
Students at the University of Texas campus have created a petition demanding UT officials punish a fraternity accused of having a racist party.
The Texas Fiji fraternity says it was a western theme party, but other students say it was a border patrol theme.
The Daily Texan first broke the story reporting some party goers wore construction clothes, sombreros with Hispanic names, ponchos and others wore military uniforms.
"It shouldn't be okay they get away with it," said UT student Nohemy Aguirre.
Apparently the party did not violate any University rules and the frat was not penalized or punished.
Update 1:
From The Daily Texan:
Although a viral photo of a flyer listing alleged Texas Fiji pledge rules resurfaced on news and social media websites after the fraternity hosted a party guests said had a "border patrol" theme last month, no source has ever been able to confirm the authenticity of the eight-year-old image.
The flyer is titled “Fiji Pledge Rules — Confidential,” and lists rules including “no interracial dating” and “no Mexicans.”
Though the post has sparked outrage in recent weeks, its source was actually a 2007 post on Flickr, a photo sharing website.
Whether this is authentic or a joke (by the frat or someone else), it is STILL offensive.
