By now we've all heard the infamous Oklahoma University SAE fraternity bus chant. We all should recognize the ignorance. There is no need to repeat things here again. The real questions now concern causation and prevention. What possibly could cause a bus full of privileged kids to go so wrong?
Jesuit Dallas Preparatory School. That's right, Prep School. A drunk freshman straight out of prep school was a ringleader of the chant. Some might question how a 19 year old was so easily able to break the law in conservative Oklahoma, but that is not the point of this diary.
The Jesuit Dallas Prep School recently released a Twitter response to the events in Oklahoma. This is a sampling of where the student's minds came from:
Jesuit Dallas calls on all men and women of good will, God's will, to fight against a culture of racism, bigotry and of death, including that of the unborn.
So, in response to a blatantly racist chant by one of your former students you reduce racism to your culture war, lumping in anti-abortion sentiments to try to drive the point home? You do realize that people of good conscience can be both pro-choice and anti-racist? Perhaps that possibility does not exist in your Right-wing, ultra wealthy, Catholic understanding of the world. To the rest of us you just appear as ignorant as your students.
