For those who will be in the NY metropolitan area in early May, you may want to check out a three day event being organized by the
United National Antiwar Coalition This event - a three day conference in Secaucus, NJ - is being called
“Stop the Wars at Home & Abroad!” and is being billed as a national antiwar and social justice conference
One of my Facebook friends, and a woman who once came and spoke with a group of my sociology students, Sara Flounders of the International Action Center, is an organizer. While some have criticized groups like the International Action Center and the A.N.S.W.E.R. Coalition is being "Stalinists," the truth is is that such organizations have in the past been successful at mass mobilizations.
For this event in May, participating groups and speakers will include Chris Hedges, CodePink, Concerned Friends and Family of Mumia Abu Jamal, Don’t Shoot Coalition, St. Louis, Grannies for Peace, May 1 Workers & Immigrant Rights Coalition, People's Justice for Community Control and Police Accountability, Ray McGovern, SJP - Students for Justice in Palestine, United for Justice with Peace, Upstate Coalition to Ground the Drones & End the Wars, Vancouver Movement Against War and Occupation, VFP - Veterans For Peace, Lynne Stewart, Ann Wright, and a group to which I belonged when I lived in NJ, the Jersey City Peace Group.
